Washington: TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew appeared before the US Congress amid growing security concerns and potential influence of the Chinese government on the company. Chew faced many tough and important questions from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This interrogation of the CEO of TikTok lasted for about four hours. During this, Chew always emphasized that the TikTok app, owned by Chinese IT company ByteDance, does not share data with the Chinese government. He also assured that the data of its 150 million users in America is completely safe and it does not share it with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

US Congressman Debbie Lesko asked the question, referring to the ban on TikTok in India and other countries, “This (TikTok) is a tool that is under the control of the Chinese government and raises national security concerns. All these countries and our How could the FBI director be wrong?” To this, Chew said, “I think that many of the allegations made are imaginary and theoretical. I have not found any evidence of this yet. The grounds on which India imposed the ban are imaginary.” On this, Debbie Lesko once again reiterated the security concern and discussed the restrictions imposed by India.
India had banned TikTok in 2020 due to security reasons. India also banned messaging apps WeChat, TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps in 2020 over privacy and security concerns. The ban was imposed soon after the clash between Indian and Chinese troops at the LAC, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and dozens were injured.
