US Congressman Debbie Lesko asked the question, referring to the ban on TikTok in India and other countries, “This (TikTok) is a tool that is under the control of the Chinese government and raises national security concerns. All these countries and our How could the FBI director be wrong?” To this, Chew said, “I think that many of the allegations made are imaginary and theoretical. I have not found any evidence of this yet. The grounds on which India imposed the ban are imaginary.” On this, Debbie Lesko once again reiterated the security concern and discussed the restrictions imposed by India.

India had banned TikTok in 2020 due to security reasons. India also banned messaging apps WeChat, TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps in 2020 over privacy and security concerns. The ban was imposed soon after the clash between Indian and Chinese troops at the LAC, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and dozens were injured.

Let us tell you that in the month of February, the White House had given 30 days to the federal agencies to completely remove ‘TikTok’ from all government devices. At the same time, Canada had also announced a ban on ‘TikTok’ in all mobile devices of the government. These decisions were taken amid growing security concerns regarding this Chinese video app. The guidelines issued by the Office of Management and Budget in the US were described as “an important step towards addressing the risks posed by apps to sensitive government data”. Some agencies including the Defense Ministry, Home Ministry and External Affairs Ministry had already banned it. The app ‘TikTok’ of Chinese internet technology company ‘ByteDance Limited’ is very popular and is used by about two-thirds of teenagers in America.
